Extra officers have also been patrolling the streets

Cannabis smoking parents will be reported to social services, police have warned Gloucester residents.

Officers sent out a cautionary letter to people living in the south of the city following a rise in reports of people smoking illegal substances in the street. Extra police have also been patrolling a street in Quedgeley today (November 17).

Drivers were also warned they could be stopped and tested for drugs. And landlords will be informed if their tenants are caught using drugs inside rented properties.

The letter sent out by Gloucester south policing team says: "We are sending this letter in response to reports that we have received in relation to cannabis use in your street.

"We would like to assure you that we will investigate any reports that we receive in relation to drug activity.

"We will work in partnership with other organisations and agencies in tackling the problem.

"This may involve contacting your landlord or housing provider if you are renting a property to make them aware that drugs are being used in their property.

"If you drive a vehicle consider that you may be stopped and drug tested if there is intelligence to suggest that you are driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

"If you are a parent with children and use cannabis or any other illegal substances, we will ensure that a referral is completed to social services to make them aware that you are using illegal substances whilst looking after a minor/minors."

The team also advised anyone with a drugs issue to contact their GP.

A Gloucester city police spokesperson tweeted: "This morning (November 17) in response to a complaint of Cannabis use, PCSOs Kev Lee and Rach Addinal have been out patrolling the street in question in Quedgeley.

"We have distributed a letter to residents in the street and will patrol and deal with any offences being committed at the time."
