Lord Sugar has supported the legalisation of cannabis in the UK as he feels that it could slow down knife crime around the UK. The Apprentice star gave his voice to the ‘On a Knife Edge’ campaign on Good Morning Britain today, calling frenemy Piers Morgan on-air to discuss what he felt could help. Revealing the idea had been sparked following the discussion of legalizing medical marijuana in the House of Lords two weeks ago, he said: ‘‘[It] kind of prompted me to jump up and ask the whether if marijuana was legalised, albeit very, very heavily regulated, in the same way alcohol and cigarettes are, whether this would put the kibosh on the gangs.’

‘You’ve got to ask what are they doing this for, is it reprisal for not paying your drugs bill? Or what?’ When Piers added that the likely drug that could be causing the trouble was more probable to be cocaine, which he says is ‘flooding’ London’s streets alongside stronger drugs such as heroin. He then questioned whether he was advocating for the legalisation of other drugs as a result. EDITORIAL USE ONLY. He said: ‘My idea would be, one element of it, if it was legalised it would do away with a lot of gang culture, very similar to Prohibition in America many many years ago back in the 1930s, when alcohol was legalised again it just wiped out the crime and corruption,” he argued.

‘But having said that, there is various elements to it. One [reason] is the drugs, two is this one-upmanship, this status thing, where you’re known by your mates for stabbing people.’ He added that it would solve ‘around 30%’ of the trouble.
