Campaigners have said Louth MP Victoria Atkins should stand down

Louth and Horncastle MP Victoria Atkins stopped giving a speech about cannabis after it emerged her husband grows the class B drug for a living.

The Government's drugs minister was accused of a "ridiculous conflict of interests" over her partner Paul Kenward's role as managing director of British Sugar - which was granted a Home Office licence to grown cannabis for medicinal purposes in 2016.

Ms Atkins opposes cannabis law reforms and has spoken out against it.

Campaigners fighting for the legalisation of the drug in the UK have even gone as far to say she should stand down from her role as drugs minister altogether, reports the Daily Mail.

They claim she has not stopped speaking about the issue.

Mr Kenward's role is not registered in the minister's list of interests, despite rules which state if a close family member has an influential role which relates to the minister's post, it should be declared.
