UK: NI: Police move in during cannabis solidarity rally currently under way at the Guildhall Square in Derry

Derry Now

Friday 20 Apr 2018

The PSNI have moved in and removed people from a cannabis solidarity rally at Guildhall Square in Derry which began less than half an hour ago.

The '4/20' event is being organised by the LegenDerry Cannabis Club.

It began at 4:20pm, at which time those in attendance were asked to 'light up' in a show of solidarity and unity with other cannabis users across the world.

4/20 is a code-term that refers to the consumption of cannabis, especially smoking cannabis around the time 4:20 pm/am and smoking and celebrating cannabis on the date April 20.

There were angry scenes last year when police moved in and removed a young person.

The PSNI was also present at today's event, and have removed at least one person from the event.
