US: Marijuana home grows busted in massive multi-county sweep in Colorado

Local authorities are serving warrants at more than 20 locations as part of a massive multi-county illegal marijuana grow bust. Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration are assisting.

A spokesperson with the DEA says agents are working with local authorities and the 18th Judicial District as they search and seize illegal marijuana grows operating in five counties.

Authorities served warrants Thursday morning in Denver, Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and El Paso Counties. The DEA says the locations are part of an organization that’s growing marijuana exclusively for out-of-state use, which is in violation of state and federal law. The DEA said the investigation wrapped up around 9 a.m.

A DEA spokesman says the investigation into the organization has been in the works for months and isn't the result of any new directive from the Trump administration. There were several rounds of pot raids in the state under the previous administration.

New Attorney General Jeff Sessions has indicated he wants stronger enforcement of federal law on marijuana.
