A hemp and cannabis fair took place at the Kern County Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday.

The Oregon-based Hemp and Cannabis Fair brought in over 2,000 people.

This was the first time the fair came to California.

"The people who come through the door have just been so excited that there is anything like this where they can come and explore," Naomi Forkash, the fair's director said.

The fair has hosted almost 20 separate expos across Oregon and Alaska. Forkash said they are excited to bring it to Bakersfield.

"There is nothing like this in Bakersfield," Forkash said. "We don't want to go to the cities what have a bunch of shows and cannabis. We want to go to the communities that have no place where people can go and learn," she said.

40 vendors took part, showcasing cannabis products and accessories.

Marijuana was not consumed at the fair.

The focus was on educating the public about marijuana, its medicinal benefits, how to grow and use it.

Sunday the Super Bowl was streamed at the fair. Prizes were given out for every touchdown scored.

It was open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

"Our goal is to normalize cannabis, and the way to do that is having events like this," Forkash said.
