Raja Waidyasekera Tissamaharama

Ceylon Daily News

Saturday 23 Jul 2016

Ayurvedic physicians in the Hambantota district said cannabis cultivation should be made legal because they find it impossible to obtain cannabis for the preparation of about 16 varieties of ayurvedic medicines.

They said the ayurvedic pharmaceutical industry needs dried and fresh leaves of cannabis. Cannabis based medicines are used in the treatment of cancer, neurological disorders and rheumatoid arthritis. Ayurvedic physicians in Hambantota said laws should be passed to make cannabis cultivation legal for use in the ayurvedic medicine industry.
