France: France to punish marijuana smokers with a fine

Those caught smoking marijuana in France will, as of today, be punished with a simple fine – this is according to a decree just published in the French official gazette. The measure will avoid legal action for many people, who will instead by asked to pay a few hundred euros. However, it’s not a case of decriminalisation, because the penalties proposed by the police must be authorised individually by the prosecutor.
