Prague, Nov 5 (CTK) - The Czech police have accused seven people in raids on grow shops, or shops in which it is possible to buy the needs to grow marijuana, and the action launched on Monday will continue in the weeks to come, police presidium spokeswoman Ivana Jezkova said yeterday.

She added that the police are checking suspected drug delicts in more than 50 cases involving drug addiction spread, particularly the offering and public presentation of materials promoting marijuana growing and use.

Jezkova said the police mainly seize items needed in growing cannabis, such as fertilisers, substrates and lamps as well as instructions, catalogues and promotion items.

One exhibitor has already withdrawn from the Cannafest international cannabis trade fair to be held in Prague at the weekend over the raid.

The event director, Lukas Behal, said "one big Czech grow shop" has cancelled its participation because the police seized its goods.

Behal added that this will not threaten the fair because there are another 180 exhibitors.

"Cannafest will be held normally. We coordinate it with the police who will be here throughout the event," Behal said.

Jezkova justified the police raids by that the number of indoor cannabis growing facilities has markedly increased since 2007. The number of indoor and Internet shops offering necessary technologies has been growing accordingly, she said.

Jezkova said last year the police seized a record 563 kilograms of marijuana and uncovered 199 cannabis growing facilities whose annual production capacity is estimated at some seven tonnes.
