UK: Cannabis groups set to protest

CANNABIS groups across the East Midlands are set to protest of what they regard as the ‘failed and, in their opinion, harmful laws concerning cannabis.’

From 2pm, on Sunday, September 22, groups are set to converge on the Bass Recreation Ground in Derby, as part of a national campaign that has seen events taking place across the country; including a protest in London, where more than 10,000 people attended.

The groups says the Class B drug has shown to be effective in treating a multitude of conditions, and keeping possession against the law means ‘the ill are being forced into having to rely on an often unscrupulous black-market or risk up to 14 years in prison by growing their own medicine.’

The protest comes after the discovery of cannabis factories in Burton and South Derbyshire in recent weeks, with the most recent concerning two homes raided in Victoria Street where more than 500 plants were found with a total street value of £270,000.
