UK: No arrests at Exeter cannabis protest

Exeter Express & Echo

Monday 26 Aug 2013

Dozens of people turned out for a cannabis protest event in Exeter, with no arrests by police.

The Devon branch of the United Kingdom Cannabis Social Club organised the 'Smoke Out' in Flowerpot fields on Saturday afternoon. After a slow start, numbers in the park steadily grew through the day.

Earlier police had told that Echo that they would monitor the event, adding that, while all participants taking part would be breaking the law, they recognised the protester's right for a peaceful protest.

And they were unlikely to make arrests unless there were complaints.

The Cannabis Social Club said it was organising the event to "raise awareness of the benefits of cannabis and to address the bias and misinformation so often seen in the mainstream media".
