Malaysia: Nigerian student gets death sentence for drug trafficking

A Nigerian man was sentenced to death at the High Court here Monday for trafficking cannabis two years ago.

James Kamara, a student at a private higher learning institution in Kuala Lumpur, was found guilty of trafficking 18,810gm of cannabis at about 9.05pm, at the Shahab Perdana bus terminal here, on Sept 13, 2010.

Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab said the accused had failed to prove reasonable doubt in the case made against him.

Kamara, who was charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, was calm when Mohd Zaki delivered the sentence.

He was represented by counsel Burhanudeen Abdul Wahid while Customs Department deputy public prosecutor Nur Sarah Dina Baharudin prosecuted.
