Malaysia: Drug Trafficking: One Sent To The Gallows, The Other Acquitted

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Indonesian Nasir Ibrahim was on Wednesday given the mandatory death sentence by the High Court here after he was found guilty of trafficking 868gm cannabis more than five years ago.

Judicial Commissioner Zainal Azman Ab Aziz handed down the sentence after finding that the defence had failed to raise any doubts in the case.

Nasir, 31, was charged with committing the offence at a road block in Taman Wilayah at 4am on Jan 7, 2004.

In handing down the sentence, Zainal Azman said that the defence statement by Nasir was made up and could not be accepted, especially on his claim of a involved, but the person fled.

In another case, Zainal Azman ordered M. Muniyaretnam, 45, to be acquitted and discharged from a drug trafficking charge as the prosecution had failed to establish a prima case against him.

Muniyaretnam was charged with trafficking 255gm cannabis at an unnumbered noodle factory on Jalan Kasipillay here at 2.30am on Jan 28, 2007.
