Smoke gets in their eyes Alun Buffry Letters, The Guardian Sunday 08 Oct 2000 My congratulations to the Tory MP's who have admitted to having used cannabis in their youth. I hope that they will now call for an end to the punishment of people for doing something that they themselves got away with. (Letters, Oct 7) I am sure that, like millions of others, none of those honest - yet maybe somewhat hypocritical - politicians hurt anyone through their use of cannabis. But they were fortunate indeed, for had they been arrested and prosecuted, it may well have jeopardised their careers.
